Mitral Valve

The mitral valve is located between the left atrium and left ventricle of the heart. It is usually made up of two flaps, called the anterior and posterior leaflets. Diseases of the mitral valve can produce rigidity as in mitral stenosis. The strings that prevent the leaflets from opening the wrong way can either elongate or rupture producing mitral regurgitation.
