HEART CONDITIONS
Cardiac Screening Test
You lead a busy life. People rely on you at home, at work, and beyond.
You may feel well. You may exercise regularly, eat sensibly, and take your health seriously. But even for people who do everything right, there is often a quieter question in the background:
How confident am I about my heart?
The Heart Health Assessment at The Keyhole Heart Clinic is designed for people who want a proper, consultant-led evaluation of their cardiovascular health.
This is not a pre-set screening package or a one-size-fits-all health MOT.
Your assessment begins with a face-to-face consultation with an experienced cardiologist or cardiac surgeon. It is supported by modern cardiac blood markers and a resting ECG. Further tests are recommended only when they are clinically appropriate and when they add meaningful clinical value.
You are guided through the process by the same consultant throughout, with clear explanation, continuity of care, and a plan tailored to you.
If you’re interested in a more advanced cardiac screening, you can learn more about our bespoke Cardiac Longevity Program, which is a high-end heart monitoring service that helps prevent and manage heart conditions.
When to Get Your Heart Health Screening
You should consider attending a cardiac health screening if any of the following apply:
- Aged 40 or older
- Family history of early heart disease or stroke
- High cholesterol or high blood pressure
- You are suffering from symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations or dizziness
- You smoke or used to smoke
- You have diabetes or prediabetes
- High-performance athletes should consider a sports cardiology evaluation to assess their cardiac health, especially if they experience unusual symptoms during physical exertion.
If your resting heart rate is often above 100 and you’re not experiencing any underlying health issues, stress, or are not an endurance athlete, consult your doctor. If it drops below 40 and you’re not a trained athlete, that’s also a concern. It could point to thyroid issues, anaemia or a cardiac rhythm problem.
What Exactly Does The Service Entail?
The Heart Health Assessment is a consultant-led, stepwise evaluation of your heart and cardiovascular risk.
It includes:
• A face-to-face consultation and examination with a GMC-registered cardiology consultant or cardiac surgeon
• A comprehensive cardiac blood panel that looks beyond basic cholesterol
• A resting ECG to assess heart rhythm and electrical conduction
• A follow-up online consultation to review your results in detail and agree next steps
• The option to add echocardiograms or CT scans only when they are clinically indicated
All investigations are carried out in CQC-registered hospitals and interpreted by the same consultant who assessed you, rather than by multiple disconnected services.
Fees For Your Heart Health Assessment
The typical fee for the core Heart Health Assessment is £1,300.
This reflects senior consultant involvement throughout, modern cardiac testing, and structured follow-up.
The fee usually includes:
• Consultant consultations and results review: £450 (Two critical consultations)
• Comprehensive cardiac blood tests: £700
• Resting ECG: £150
Total: £1,300
What Tests Are Included
1. Consultant assessment and results review
You will have:
• A face-to-face consultation with full medical history and examination
• A separate online consultation once results are available, to explain findings and agree a plan
The combined consultant fee of £450 covers both appointments.
2. Comprehensive cardiac blood tests
We use a modern cardiac-focused blood panel to assess long-term cardiovascular risk more accurately than standard testing alone.
This typically includes:
• ApoB
• Lipoprotein(a)
• High-sensitivity CRP
• Full lipid profile
• HbA1c and glucose
• Thyroid, liver and renal function
• Additional markers where clinically appropriate
3. Resting ECG
A standard 12-lead ECG is performed to assess heart rhythm and electrical conduction. It forms an important part of the baseline assessment.
What About Echocardiograms And CT Scans?
Imaging is not included automatically. It is recommended only when it adds value to your individual assessment.
Echocardiogram
An echocardiogram assesses heart muscle function, valve performance, and chamber size.
It may be advised if, for example:
• A murmur is detected
• You have breathlessness, palpitations or reduced exercise tolerance
• You have long-standing high blood pressure
• Your ECG is abnormal
• Your age and risk profile justify structural assessment
Typical fee: £595
CT Calcium Score
A CT calcium score helps refine long-term coronary risk, particularly in people over 40 with risk factors or family history. No radiation dye is necessary.
It is usually considered after blood tests and ECG have been reviewed, when the result is likely to influence clinical advice.
Typical fee: £1,100 (calcium score)
CT Coronary Angiogram
CT coronary angiography is a detailed scan used when symptoms or test results suggest coronary artery disease. This test requires a very small dose of radiation.
It is not a routine screening test. When indicated, it is arranged through partner centres with clear costs provided in advance.
Typical fee: £1,500 (detailed coronary analysis and calcium score)
If a Problem is Identified
If your assessment reveals an issue, you are supported by a consultant who already knows your case.
Depending on the findings, we may:
• Arrange further investigations where needed
• Recommend lifestyle changes and medical treatment
• Refer to interventional cardiology for procedures such as stenting
• Discuss surgical options, including minimally invasive approaches where appropriate
• Provide detailed reports for your GP or other clinicians
You are never left with unexplained results or no clear plan.
Insurance And Payment
The Heart Health Assessment is currently a self-pay service.
As a structured preventive assessment, it is not usually reimbursed as a package by insurers. In some cases, individual elements may be eligible for reimbursement when ordered for diagnostic reasons. This depends on your policy and insurer.
We can provide clinical letters and reports to support any claim, but reimbursement cannot be guaranteed.
How This Differs From Other Screening Clinics
Many clinics offer fixed screening packages based on pre-set test menus.
Our approach is different:
• Your assessment begins with a consultant cardiologist or heart surgeon, not a test list
• Advanced cardiac biomarkers are used as standard
• Imaging is added only when clinically appropriate
• A single consultant oversees your care throughout
• Follow-up and continuity are built into the process
This is not a volume screening service. It is a bespoke, medically led assessment for people who want depth, clarity, and continuity.

Explaining the important tests:
Performing a series of comprehensive tests allows us to visualise your current condition and find any irregularities in the performance of your heart.
Blood Tests
A blood test will be carried out to check for general disorders such as anaemia or inflammation and determine your general health.
One risk factor that’s often overlooked is Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a). It’s a type of cholesterol that’s passed down genetically. High levels can triple your risk of cardiac conditions, but it’s not included in routine blood tests. Other tests like Apo B, HBA1c, Troponin and highly sensitive C Reative Protein are used in specific conditions to look for other markers of heart disease risk.
If you or your family have a history of early cardiac disease or high cholesterol, please ask specifically to have your Lp(a) levels checked at your appointment.
Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG)
An ECG will only take a few minutes to perform, with electrodes attached to the chest and providing a report for our analysis. This electrical recording of the heart’s activity will help us discover if you have any underlying heart muscle abnormalities.
Echocardiogram
An echocardiogram, a non-invasive ultrasound test, helps us assess heart muscle function. When conducting a health screening for heart disease, echocardiography is a crucial step. This check creates an image of your heart by bouncing sound waves off the organ. An echocardiogram will also provide vital data on the heart muscle and valve functions. We can monitor this all without pain or incisions.
Additional Cardiovascular Screening Tests
We also have other heart health screening tests available during a private heart scan, including:
CT Calcium Score
A CT (computed tomography) Calcium Score is provided through x-ray equipment. It produces pictures of the coronary arteries to determine whether or not they are blocked or even narrowed, making it ideal to check for coronary artery disease (CAD). It will provide a score that we can use to assess your health.
CT Coronary Angiography
A CT coronary angiogram can provide detailed images of your heart and coronary arteries, making it helpful in assessing any existing health problems, meaning our cardiologists can then plan the best treatment needed to help you.
Cardiac MRI
A cardiac MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) helps determine the blood supply to the heart and identifies if a patient has reduced blood flow to the heart muscle that may cause chest pain in concerned patients. It will also show any congenital heart conditions that developed before birth, and if there is any existing damage to the heart muscle from a recent heart attack.
Invasive Coronary Angiography
Invasive Coronary Angiography is done under local anaesthetic and is typically reserved for cases where non-invasive tests suggest significant disease.
You’ll be attached to an ECG, and a small catheter is inserted through a blood vessel in your wrist or groin and into your heart. A dye will be injected into your heart to help take X-ray images. The x-rays show how well your heart muscle is working and highlight any narrowed heart arteries, which are a critical sign of coronary heart disease.
The cost of these additional tests, such as CT Coronary Angiography or Cardiac MRI, will be discussed with you during your consultation, allowing you to make informed decisions about your cardiac health.
