How a Cardiovascular Dietitian Can Improve Your Heart Health

Eating well forms the foundation of good health and the prevention of cardiovascular disease. However, the sheer amount of information available on the subject can create confusion and overwhelm.

Healthy eating should not feel like an eternal “diet”; but rather, it should:

  1. Empower you to make confident nutrition decisions
  2. Fuel your body with the nutrients it needs
  3. Celebrate great tasting food that promotes your wellbeing

Our team of registered dietitians, who are full members of the British Dietetic Association, and cardiac nutritional therapists specialise in cardiovascular health. They can:

  • Work with you independently, or alongside current nutritional therapy programmes
  • Address your specific concerns and goals
  • Help you achieve long-term optimal health
  • Create a cardiovascular diet plan that works for you and your individual circumstances

Our clinical heart dietitians will help you incorporate a cardiac-healthy diet that fits naturally into your daily life.

If you are interested in receiving practical diet and lifestyle advice from a cardiac nutritionist or dietitian, book an appointment and complete the Pre-Consultation Health Questionnaire.

By filling this in, we will have all the information we require to assess your diet and lifestyle effectively. We will also be able to recommend any further services or clinical care, such as a heart screening, to help maintain your future health.

Why Do I Need a Cardiovascular Diet Plan?

Having a healthy heart is heavily influenced by the lifestyles we lead. Whilst it is difficult to avoid all unhealthy food and drink, understanding why they are unhealthy and the negative long-term effects is important. It will help us make better choices to avoid increased cardiac-related problems.

Our clinical dietitians will design a cardiovascular nutritional plan, styled on plant-based or Mediterranean diets, that incorporates a balance of food groups, for example:

  • Protein-rich food such as some meats, fish, eggs, beans, and nuts.
  • Fruit and vegetables that provide at least 5 portions a day
  • Some milk and dairy products
  • Reduced amounts of sugar, saturated fat and salt
  • Wholegrain foods such as rice, pasta, potatoes, bread
  • Healthier unsaturated fats from oily fish, avocado, etc.

You should make small, lasting changes to your diet, such as:

  • Limiting or completely cutting out processed foods
  • Avoiding trans fats
  • Cutting back on sugary drinks

These steps can help protect your heart and support better long-term health. Tailored to your dietary and allergy requirements, a cardiovascular diet plan will vary between individuals depending on the results of your initial consultation.

This is just one of the ways in which we can help you when booking an appointment, along with weight management, improving sleep and blood sugar control and supporting blood pressure management.
